How to Convert Image to Photocopy?
This tool makes it easy for you to convert images to a photocopy style. Just upload your image using the "Upload an Image" button above. Once processed, a preview of your original and the photocopied version will appear, along with style options and a download button.
The tool can process full-size photos but it can take around five to ten seconds for processing the larger images on some phones so please be patient . It's much faster on laptops and super new mobile devices.
All downloaded images are high quality JPGs at the same pixel dimensions as the uploaded image.
Photocopy Machine Styles
Photocopy machines will deliver a variety of results from subtle grainy grays to the more harsh and gritty black and white "punk" look. We've emulated that by offering different photocopy rendering modes.
Once your image has been converted, you can choose from these four different visual styles:
- Classic Photocopy Mode: This is strictly black and white. No grays. This classic gritty photocopy look is often associated with the underground 80s Xerox aesthetic. It's especially strong on smaller images.
Calculation: Converts image to grayscale. Then, each pixel is compared to a fixed brightness threshold (around 45-50% brightness). Pixels brighter than the threshold become pure white, and those darker become pure black, creating a high-contrast, two-tone image. A very fine, subtle noise is added to mimic toner flecks. - Minimum Mode: A low contrast and grainy tonal gray photocopy style. Like an outdated library photocopier running low on toner.
Calculation: Converts image to grayscale. The overall contrast is slightly reduced (e.g., by a factor of 0.8) and brightness gently lifted, making mid-tones more prominent. A noticeable amount of random noise (grain intensity around 25-30 on a 0-255 scale) is added to each pixel to simulate toner speckles and a low-quality copy. - Medium Mode: Grainy tonal grays with a touch of contrast. It has the pleasing feel of an old school photograph. Perfect for sharing on the socials.
Calculation: Converts image to grayscale. Contrast is moderately increased (e.g., by a factor of 1.2-1.3). A balanced level of grain (intensity around 15-20) is applied across the image, giving it a textured, slightly aged photographic feel. - Maximum Mode: A grainy high-contrast style. A bold look with more tonal range than the classic photocopier style.
Calculation: Converts image to grayscale. Contrast is significantly boosted (e.g., by a factor of 1.6-1.8), making darks deeper and lights brighter, while still attempting to preserve some gray tones. A strong, visible grain (intensity around 35-40) is added for a gritty, high-impact look.
